Glassblowing history & nature - on the bike along Ätradalstrail

Welcome to an interesting bike ride on Ätradalstrail where industrial history, history of glass and second-hand culture encounter beautiful nature.

Ulricehamn is located in western Sweden's southernmost parts beautifully next Åsunden lake. There are good cycling and hiking trails as well as cross-country and downhill skiing with good quality. On this tour you will visit the “Glasets Hus” that tells the story of glassworks in Limmared and of the famous “Absolut Wodka” bottle . You have the chance to try to blow your own glass. Limmareds residential street is packed of antique and second-hand stores and you will certainly find a unique souvenir for your home. Ätradalstrail is a paved embankment surrounded by lakes and beautiful scenery. You live in Skotteksgården directly at Åsunden Lake and Ätradalsleden.

 

Day 1 Skotteksgården  - Glasets Hus, Limmared (round trip - 56 km)
We recommend that you arrive in the morning at 9.00. If you arrive by bus in Ulricehamn you simply walk along the lake 2.7 km to Skotteksgården, where you pick up your rental bikes , route description and packed lunches.

Then it's time to start your cycling adventures starting at Ätradalstrail .You ride safely and easy along the embankment with beautiful Åsunden Lake. At Vegby there is a fun playground for the little ones and you will pass several nice resting places along the way where you can enjoy your packed lunch packets. After Månstad you cycle parallel along the historic “Oxabanan trail”. On this trail, oxen once moved the glass products from Limmared to the Åsunden lake. After passing Sweden's oldest glassworks in operation, also known for the production of ABSOLUT Wodka bottle , it is time for a stop at Limmareds “Glasets Hus”. The small town  Limmared is also an insider tip for second-hand and antique lovers. With a dozen stores in second-hand , antique and retro (open Tue & Sat at 14-18) it is easy to find an unusual souvenir.  You will visit the Glasets Hus”. That was designed to preserve the area's 300 - year history. There is a foundry, a large glass exhibition and glass blowing. Here you eat lunch buffet and have the opportunity to blow your own glass. When you are ready to go on you enjoy the embankment along the lakes all the way back to Skotteksgårdens. At this scenic family camping you stay overnight in a cozy camping-barrel or in Seabungalow.

Alternative route way back: Limmared-Månstad-Lugnet-Vegby-Skottek (total 39 km)
This route runs on dirt road and is slightly hilly. At Månstad turn towards Hofsnäs and Torpa , in Lugnet turn right towards Vegby. At Vegby take the left towards Ätradalstrail and 
further up towards Ulricehamn. You pass Åsundsholm which is part of the "Mansions around the lake"


Standard on the bike path: easy to cycle, car-free embankment and flat all the way to the glass house in Limmared and back

Day 2 Discover Ulricehamn
After breakfast it is time to check out (late check-out is possible). It is possible to stay several nights, and experience, among others , Åsunden around, and our hiking trails in Sjuhärad. Ulricehamn is a small town with nice shops. Take the opportunity to visit the Kallbadhuset and stroll along the promenade. If you want to know more, please contact the tourist office located in the middle of town.
